Cynthia M Kroyer, Age:70

Cynthia M. Kroyer (nee Makris), C.P.D, Age 70 passed away peacefully in hospice succumbing to her second bout of Cancer and other illnesses. Cindy left behind her loving husband, Ed (C.P.D) and daughter, Kelly. As well as her only sibling, sister, Debby Koster (widow, Douglas Koster Sr.), mother of Douglas Jr. and Heather. Cindy was born and raised in Chicago. She graduated from Kelvyn Park High School and was attending city college when her dream job came along as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines (do not refer to them as stewardesses, you could get hurt). That career became her everything. Traveling the world and getting paid for it and receiving travel benefits for her and her family.

Early on in her airline career she met her future husband Ed Kroyer who was a Chicago Police Officer, and dated for several years before marrying in 1977. Still married today after all these years (45). Who would of thunk it. She gave birth to her only child, Kelly in 1984 and continued her airline career. After 19 years with the company, Eastern Airlines went under and she lost her job as well as seniority. She was eventually hired by Northwest Airlines but had to start from scratch. After several years the luster wore off and it was time for a career change. Dealing with the public isn’t easy but Cindy was good at it. She decided to take a flying leap from the sky to the ground and became a police officer. Much to the chagrin of her husband who didn’t think this dainty, sweet little gal could cut it. She proved him to be as wrong as two left feet. She passed the entrance exam easily and worked hard to make it through the police academy which isn’t easy. After the academy she was assigned to the 9th district on the south side where she learned to be a darn good cop. After 10 years working a beat car she suffered a cerebral aneurysm while on duty. Thanks to the quick response and good decisions by the Chicago Fire Departments EMT’s she was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she underwent emergency brain surgery. She made a full recovery and went back to work after months of rehabilitation and continued to work until she was 63, which is mandatory retirement age. She loved being a cop every bit as much as being a flight attendant. She hated retirement unlike most people so she did volunteer work at a local animal shelter.

In December 2020 her daughter Kelly and son-in-law Pierce McCarthy gave birth to her one and only granddaughter, baby Keera. Cindy cherished the short time she had with her. Still all in all Cindy had a good life. She loved traveling with her long time girlfriends Alex, Cathy and Pat, who are all former flight attendants. Alex was her oldest and dearest friend going back to their childhood and they maintained that friendship all the way through life.

All who knew Cindy will surely miss her and that great walk she had that could be recognized from afar.

A Celebration of Cynthia's Life will be held at Olson-Burke/Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6467 N. Northwest Highway (one block north of Devon) on Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 1-3pm.  Private interment at a later date.
