Susan Sheerin Wall, Age:77

Susan Patricia Wall (nee Sheerin) 77, passed away on July 14, 2022 with her loving husband at her side.

Susan was born in Chicago to Edythe (nee Bowman) and James Sheerin, the oldest of their four children. Raised in Chicago and Park Ridge, she attended St. Paul of the Cross Elementary, Marywood Academy, and then Clarke University (formerly Clarke College), Mundelein College, and George Washington University.  She was in attendance at Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

While working on Capitol Hill, Susan met the love of her life, William “Bill” Lyon Wall. Their first date was on October 16, 1965.  They spent seven years working on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. including three years together in Senator Everett Dirksen’s office.

Susan and Bill were married on April 11, 1970 in Park Ridge, IL.  They began their married life in Washington, D.C. and then moved to Park Ridge in 1973. They purchased their first house there in 1976 and never left.

Susan spent her career working in insurance in Chicago’s financial district as an international underwriter’s assistant.  In high demand by many firms, she was recruited to several.  These firms included AIG and CHUBB; she eventually retired from Traveler’s Insurance.

Susan was very artistic, becoming a master at needlepoint.  The Halloween costumes she created for her family are still talked about to this day.  She loved to collect antiques and was an expert the culinary arts, passing down skills and recipes to family.  She prepared involved and unforgettable feasts for family and friends.  Bill became the ‘guinea pig’ for those perfect meals.  He still gets nostalgic when hearing the words “taste this.”

Susan and Bill loved to travel especially with friends, combining it with their shared love for theater, while always trying to squeeze in a visit to see family.

Susan became very active in local philanthropy.  She served as president of the 20th Century Club Juniors and organized one of the Club’s famous fund-raising fashion shows.  Another passion of Sue’s, besides her own pets, was animal welfare including that of working animals such as Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

Susan Sheerin Wall is survived by her adoring husband, Bill; her loving sister, Kathleen (Anthony) Sheerin Rich; her five cherished nieces, Nina Rizzo, Michael Rizzo, Nancy Rich, Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Rich, and Sarah Rich; and countless friends, neighbors and acquaintances.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Patricia E. Sheerin and James M. Sheerin.
