Pierrette Elise Sauvat, Age:90

Pierrette Elise Sauvat, 90, passed away on October 8, 2017. She was born July 9, 1927 in Metz, France. She lost her mother in childbirth and was raised by her Father, Pierre, an aunt and her grandmother. At a young age she left for boarding school but the family remained very close. She would return home for holidays and they visited every weekend. She loved boarding school, her independence and ability to make friends developed during this time. By 1939 the war had reached the heart of France and she returned to Metz. During the war she survived several air raids and had been trapped alone in the rubble of the family house for over two days. She was a true survivor. When the war ended, she was exposed to the American influence. This clashed with her father's stern beliefs concerning proper behavior for a young woman. To her America meant "Freedom". After completing her education, her Grandmother gave her the chance to move to California to live with an uncle. She lived in California, Louisiana and eventually settled in Chicago. The city became her home. She worked at Kemper and tutored at Ilingua and Latin schools. Her friends became her family and it was they who benefitted from her spirit and zest for life. They grew strong through her and are ennobled by her influence. When you remember Pierrette, remember her determination, spirit and fun that she brought into your life. She will be missed. Private funeral services have been held. In her remembrance, donations to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls at donate.mercyhome.org or St. Jude's Children's Hospital at stjude.org/donate

Friend Brampton Ontario Canada ,

Our deepest condolences to the family of Pierrette. Kim and I met Pierrette a few years ago through Nathalie. Whenever we managed to get to Chicago, she always encouraged a visit for dessert and a chat. She worked very hard to be independent. We will miss her and remember her fondly.
