George T. Schmidt, born January 9, 1931 in Chicago, passed away September 9, 2013. Preceded in death by his parents, George and Pauline Schmidt, brother Norbert and daughter Linda. George is survived by his sister, Betty (Earl) Torres and his partner, Patricia Mansueto. George also had six children with Dolores, nee Szewczyk, Schmidt and was the father of Michael, Thomas, Debbie (Mike) Hamilton, Paulette (Robert) DeGeorge and James Schmidt. Grandfather of Jamie, Kristina, Robert, James, Brittany, Rachel, Christopher and Daniel. Great-grandfather of Elijah, Jaxson and Brycen. George served in the Naval Reserves and also was an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for the past 21 years. He worked for Signode for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, spending time with his many friends and family, as well as Notre Dame and Bears football. George was a good neighbor to the Picadilly Pack, a kind soul with a big gentle heart, always willing to lend a helping hand. Visitation Thursday, September 12, from 3 to 9 pm at Olson Burke/Sullivan Funeral & Cremation Center, 6467-77 N. Northwest Hwy. (one block north of Devon), Chicago. Friends and family are asked to meet at St. Emily Parish, 1400 E. Central Rd., Mount Prospect, on Friday, September 13 for the Funeral Mass beginning at 10 am. Interment private.
