Christa Marie Holmen was born on July 11, 1934 in Denmark, one of four children of Christian and Alwine (nee Rasmussen) Poort. 

She came to the United States alone in 1952.  She met the future love of her life while attending a Danish fraternal function, Paul S. Holmen.  They were married in January of 1957 and welcomed their first child, Mark, in November.  His three brothers would follow, Gary in 1959, Donald in 1964 and Bryan in 1966 to complete their family.  Christa and Paul would raise their family in the Norwood Park neighborhood of Chicago.  When the boys were young, most vacations were camping trips across the states or visiting family in Denmark.

As the children grew, Christa and Paul began traveling the world and once they retired, Hawaii (Christa had a special love of this state), Europe, Australia, and naturally Denmark were all within their reach.

Christa was a homemaker, a fantastic cook and an extraordinary baker, taking after her father and grandfather who were bakers in Denmark.  She had a great passion of Astronomy that fueled her desire of travel.

Christa was the loving wife of the late Paul S.; caring mother of the late Mark (Janet), late Gary (Diane), Donald (Irene) and Bryan; cherished grandmother of Mark Jr. (Katie Mahoney), Jacob (Mia), Nicholas (Janette), Rebecca (Tony), Kacey, Lauren, and Kristofer; adored great grandmother of Jenna, Kayla and Gary; special aunt of Charlotte Poort; dear aunt, cousin and friend of many.

A Celebration of Christa’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 beginning at 1 pm  with a formal service at 230 pm at Olson Burke/Sullivan Funeral and Cremation Center, located at 6471 N. Northwest Hwy., Chicago (one block north of Devon Ave.).
