Thomas Alfonso Horner, Age:95

Thomas Alfonso Horner, 95, passed away peacefully at home on March 4th.
 
Tom was born in Springfield, Illinois, to Carmela Greco, the oldest of four children.
 
In 1945 Thomas enlisted in the Navy where he proudly served. Following his service to our country, he took up
residence in Des Plaines while he began his career in the printing industry. Thomas returned to a career with the government, joining the United States Post Office in 1972 and retired in 1994. He became the friendly face at the counter where people could still get service with a smile.
 
Thomas married his high school sweetheart Hazel B. (nee Harter) in 1948. A loving marriage that lasted until her untimely passing in 1976. Thomas was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening and made the world’s best chili. Most of all, he loved his family. Tom was lucky to find strong love again, marrying Marcia in 1996.  Thomas was predeceased by his parents, wife Hazel, sister Josephine Martin, brothers Sam and William Horner, and grandson Michael Horner, Jr.
 
His survivors include his loving spouse Marcia J. (nee Michaels); his caring children, Michael (Karen), Allen (Julie), Natalie (late Clyde) Salsgiver, Carol (Michael) Mammoser and step-daughter Cheryl (Terry) Jolineau; his cherished grandchildren, Stephanie (Mick) Pavlik, Matthew Horner, Kallie Horner, Cody Horner, Erik Horner, Annie (Dan) Vazquez, Thomas (Danielle) Salsgiver, Jack (Kristen) Salsgiver, Jaclyn (Alex) Stack, Michelle (Aaron) Kibbler, Nicole (Brian) Bates; as well as fifteen adored great-grandchildren.
 
Family and friends will gather at St. Paul of the Cross, 320 S. Washington Street, Park Ridge on Saturday, April 22 at 9:30 am to share thoughts and memories before the Memorial Mass at 10 am.
 
Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery 700 North River Road, Des Plaines.  Military Honors will be performed graveside.
