Russell Ernest Schuessler, Age:95

Russell Ernest Schuessler, 95, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2021 at his home. Born in Chicago on february 15, 1926 to Evelyn & Frank Schuessler. Russ spent some of his early years in Niles but lived in Chicago for the rest of his life. He went to Schurz High School, played basketball before graduating mid-year with his twin brother, Les. He enlisted in the Navy and served on a troop transport in the European theater. He was the ship's policeman. He also played on the ship's basketball team, playing against teams from other ships and bases. He met his devoted wife of 73 years, Lorraine, at a job in Chicago after his military service.

Russ followed his older brothers, Walter and Frank, into the dental technician career. He served as the President of the Illinois Dental Laboratory Association and was a delegate to the National Dental Lab Association for many years.

Russ was an avid stamp collector, amassing quite a collection. He belonged to numerous collecting groups over the years. Russ was a big sports fan, following all the Chicago teams. His favorite sports were the ones where his kids and grandkids were participating in. He would be in attendance and was a vociferous supporter of the kids, the referees and coaches always knew where he stood.

Russ and Lorraine belonged to and were very active at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Chicago for over 60 years. His enthusiastic, if not entirely on key, singing could be heard in the congregation for many years. Russ enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their Apple Canyon Lake home, relaxing and fishing.

Russ is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine; his children, Lorn (Lin) of Lombard, Craig (Jeannette) of Arlington Heights, Neal (Olga) of Centennial, Co. and Bonnie (John) Swanson of Park Ridge; grandchildren, Erika (Mark) Nelson, Robyn (Brett) Cordell, Bryan, Lawrence (Caitlin), Adam (Val), Daniel, Erik (Alissa), Kristi (Brad) Van Anderson, Zachary (Charlotte) and Jennifer Swanson; great grandchildren, Logan & Alexa Nelson, Gavin & Ethan Cordell, Addison & Evan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Walter, Lester and Frank.
