Jadwiga Chciuk, “Harriet” (nee Kowalewska), passed away peacefully with her son, Richard Chciuk, by her side on June 15, 2024. Jadzia was the dear wife of the late Zbigniew Chciuk, daughter of the late Czeslaw and Czeslawa Kowalewski, cherished sister of Henry Kowalewski, and the late Jozefa Hass, Witold Kowalewski, Richard Kowalewski, and George Kowalewski, dear sister-in-law of Georgene Kowalewski and Jadwiga Kowalewski, fond aunt of many nieces and nephews, and supportive friend, neighbor, and coworker to many. Jadwiga led a rich life that began in Poland, after which the Stefan Batory carried her to the U.S. at the age of 19. She would come to call Chicago, Hawaii, Idaho, Washington, Delaware, and finally Machesney Park home. She was a passionate student and life-long learner, especially in the areas of psychology, social sciences, and politics. Being well-informed was one of her many attributes. She was generous and engaged in charitable efforts and always found the time to help anyone in need. She will be remembered and celebrated for her love of entertaining, legendary cooking, dancing, and living a life punctuated by brushes with the rich and famous, street racing in her youth, and success in academic and physical pursuits. Jadwiga was honest to a fault and never refrained from confidently and boldly speaking her mind, and sharing the rich history of the Kowalewski and Chciuk families. She always had a good story to tell. Her loss will leave an indelible mark on the lives she touched through her deep and profound love of family, friends, and coworkers.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 26, 4 pm to 8 pm. at Cremation Society of Illinois, 6471 N Northwest Hwy, Chicago, IL 60631, with a morning prayer before Mass to be held at 9 am. A Mass to celebrate Jadwiga's life will be held at 10 am, Thursday, June 27, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7211 W Talcott Ave., Chicago, IL 60631. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
