Daniel John Hickey, 65, of Belleville, IL, born May 29, 1959, in Chicago, IL, died Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, O’Fallon, IL, surrounded by his family.

Dan had been a life-long resident of Chicago, IL, where he served his community as an Occupational Therapist, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and a member of St. Benedict Church; all brought him closer to his Christian faith, family, and friends.

Dan enjoyed meeting and getting to know people both through his work and travels; he enjoyed his family, as a son, a brother, and “fun Uncle Danny”, and he cherished his long-lasting friendships. Dan found strength in nature, hiking, fly-fishing, and visiting small community wooden chapels with steeples; pleasure in learning to play the guitar; accomplished in renovating his turn-of-the century home; and peace in the stars. Dan had a special gift for being a dog whisperer, his faithful companions Maisy and Bear filled his heart with joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael F. and Betty (nee Mathews) Hickey: his brother Patrick Hickey, his great niece Greta Claire Black; and his brother-in-law, James Kelley.

Surviving are his four brothers and two sisters, Joseph (Ginny) Hickey of Chicago, IL, Michael Hickey of Okawvillle, IL, Mary Kelley (the late James Kelley) of Belleville, IL, James (Kelly) Hickey of Naperville, IL, Chuck (Charleen) Hickey of Perryville, MO, and Susan Hickey of Belleville, IL, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) project St. Patrick, Chicago, IL; and Saint Labre Indian School, Ashland, Montana 59004. 

A funeral ceremony followed by burial will be held at 11am on October 14, 2024, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery: 1400 S. Wolf Rd., Hillside, IL.  Please meet at the cemetery office by 10:45am to proceed to the chapel.
