Robert Joseph Gucwa , Age: 89
June 02, 1931 -- March 03, 2021

Robert J. “Bob” Gucwa received his final healing and peacefully entered eternal life on Wednesday March 3, 2021, while at home with family at his side. He was 89. Known as the “Candle Man” because of the many years he sold church goods and holy candles in the Midwest, Bob was sharp, funny, generous, and endearing to everyone he met. A master at Scrabble, lifelong White Sox and pro-wrestling fan, always hoping to catch the biggest walleye or win the best poker hand. He was also happy to toast any occasion with Crown Royal.  Bob had lifelong friends and seemed to know someone everywhere he went. He was bi-lingual from a young age, and astonished many with his fluency in Polish.  Bob was especially devoted to his faith, saying the rosary every day and attending televised mass at home on Sunday mornings. He never lost his wit or sense of humor, or his kind heartedness toward the many people that came into his life.

Bob was dearly cherished by his five adult children: Christine Gucwa, Steven (Cheryl) Gucwa, Audrey (Matthew) Cole, Judy (Frank) Enda, and Patty Kalinowski; and stepson Jim (Marti) Sonderberg; beloved by his three granddaughters: Amanda (Dominik) Pieklo, Natalie (Paul) Haas, and Andrea (Tyler) Schaefer; and blessed by great grandchildren Blake Schaefer and Baby Pieklo (August 2021). He was preceded in death by wife Virginia (Jagodzinski), second wife Audrey (Sonderberg), and son-in-law Gregory Kalinowski.  Bob will be sadly missed by his sisters Connie Koza and Joan (Henry) Czapla, his many adoring nieces, nephews, and extended family, including longtime fishing buddies Mike Alexa and Ted Schal.  The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Julia Malicki, for her gentle kindness and caring of our father each week, and Marzena Lipinska, M.D., for her compassion and patience shown to our Dad and for us.

“Never say good-bye, just see you next time.”
