Mark M. Suchecki, Age:66

Mark Merritt Suchecki, 66, passed on January 13, 2020, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, after a four year battle with liver disease.  Mark was born in Chicago, IL on December 2, 1953 and was a lifelong resident of the Chicagoland area.

Although Mark was an only child, he is survived by his good friend and former spouse, Ortrud “Trudy” Thiess, as well as many cousins including the: Homin’s, William’s, Brown, and Suchecki’s.  Mark was preceded in death by his loving parents Jeanne and Raymond Suchecki.

Mark started his career in 1971 at Tribune Tower in the Information Technology (IT) department and worked his way up to Senior Systems Programmer.  After 16 years, he took a position with Computer Associates in Chicago where he assisted in the development of security products.  He later joined VM Assist, a small, privately-held company, as an Account Manager.  For over 20 years, Mark was also the group leader and coordinator of CAVMEN, a regional IBM user group.  Before his retirement and illness, he worked as a Senior Consultant for the Warbird Heritage Foundation (WHF), where he developed their first website. The WHF is organized for the purpose of acquiring, restoring, displaying and demonstrating antique military aircraft. The museum is located in the Waukegan National Airport and offers up-close access to historic and rare military planes. As a child, Mark aspired to be a pilot, so this position was a “dream come true”.  Working there allowed Mark access to planes and pilots, as well as the opportunity to volunteer by coordinating the professional photographers for the annual Waukegan Air Show.  His other passions included the Chicago Cubs, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), astronomy and, of course, aviation.

Family, friends & colleagues are invited to join us on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM to remember Mark, followed by a memorial service at noon at the Olson Burke/Sullivan Funeral & Cremation Center, 6471 N Northwest Highway, Chicago IL 60631.  A luncheon will immediately follow the service at Lone Tree Manor Banquets, 7730 N Milwaukee Ave, Niles IL 60714

Please RSVP by February 16, 2020 if you plan to attend the luncheon either via phone/text to Trudy Thiess at 773-343-7924, or via email to trudythiess@comcast.net
