Edward Ronald Koruba, Age:81

Edward R. Koruba, 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Ed was born to Edward and Virginia (nee Wiziecki) on June 24, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois.  He and his siblings grew up in the McKinley Park area.  He attended Tilden High School where he excelled at sports.  He was the State Champion in his weight class in wrestling, his junior and senior years.  He was also an outstanding football player earning a scholarship to Southern Illinois University.  He attended college for a year before enlisting in the Army.

It was during this time that he wed his High School sweetheart, Lorelei Kraiss.  Their honeymoon would be short as Ed was deployed to Germany where he was stationed until 1958.  Ed and Lorelei began their family while living on Newland Ave. In 1970 when they moved to Oak Lawn.  Ed joined the Teamsters Local 710 and was a proud member for over 35 years.

Ed cherished his family above all else.  He relished his time with his family.  He was the self-appointed “Master” of the family road trips.  He enjoyed fishing and had a love of story-telling, (although, at times, we believe his fishing stories were more story-telling then he admitted to).  A person who always tried to stay busy, retirement meant more time to tinker and fix anything.

Retirement allowed Lorelei and Ed to embark on the “Vacation of a Lifetime” to Alaska in 2000.  Still his greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow and marry.  Although he still tried to find the time for the occasional fishing trip.

He is survived by his Loving Bride of over 61 years, Lorelei (nee Kraiss).  He was a devoted and patient Father to Lynn Cherie Howell, Kathryn Ziyad, Beth Anne Falco and Stephan Koruba.  A cherished and rule-breaking “Papa” to Sahra, Marissa, Garry Jr., Phillip, Alexandra, Anina, Salvatore, Sawyer and Adam.

Lorelei and his children will have a Celebration of His Life open house on Sunday, April 14, 2019 from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. to be held at Francesca’s on 95th, 6248 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn.
