Mathias "Matt" R. Wachtler of Chicago, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on
August 30, 2018.  

The Loving Son of the late Mathias and Elizabeth (nee Wagner); the Devoted Husband of Anna Marie (nee Brough);  Caring father of Mathias M. (Anne), Elizabeth Weiss and Mark; Proud Grandfather of Nicholas Weiss, Christopher Weiss, Amber Wachtler, Rebecca Weiss, and Kelly Wachtler;  Beloved Great Grandfather of Alyssa and Olivia.  Dear Brother of the late Richard (Emma).  Fond Brother-in-law, Uncle, Great Uncle and Friend to countless.

Matt is an Air Force veteran having served during the Korean War.  He was proud of having learned to fly and enjoyed telling how the pilot had him “take the controls” when he took his grandsons for a plane ride.

A graduate of Lane Technical High School, He took great pride when his son, Matt, Jr. and “possibly” greater pride when his grandchildren, Christopher and Rebecca, were accepted and graduated from Lane. 

He began his career in Data Processing when it was in its infancy and was part of the industry that took computers and their storage from entire buildings to what we know today.  More recently, Matt’s favorite past time was sitting on the porch with his wife of 61 years and their dogs by their side, as he tried to identify the planes and the country they were from.

A unique person who touched the lives of many, He will be truly missed by his family and all who loved him.
