Barbara McLachlan, 81, avid reader, educator, active citizen.

Barbara McLachlan, 81, passed away May 6, 2017 after fiercely battling lymphoma over the past year. She was the much-loved wife of the late Duane McLachlan. Her passing brings immense sorrow to her daughter, Maureen, whose special relationship with her Mother will forever be cherished.

Barbara was raised in Chicago, graduated from Alverno College (Milwaukee, WI.) with a degree in education. She was a grade school teacher for many years before starting a career as a paralegal in the 1980's. She returned to teaching before her retirement.

Barbara served as past co-president and board member of the League of Women Voters of Oak Park.  She was a voracious reader who participated in several book clubs, discussion groups and played bridge with countless groups throughout Oak Park over the past forty years.

Maureen hopes that those who knew Barbara will be as inspired by her kindness, intellect, vibrant spirit, determination and humor as she is.  A celebration to honor her life will be held on Sunday, June 4 at 2pm at the Carleton Hotel, 1110 Pleasant St., Oak Park, Il. 60302, Hotel phone number is 708-848-5000.

My heartfelt sympathy, Maureen. The obituary is a beautiful tribute to a beautiful woman. Your mother was one of the most thoughtful, loving friends I have known. She is now enjoying eternal life; for that, there is no doubt. Marlene
