Dawn E. Schoene, Age:68

Dawn Elizabeth (Schraegle) Schoene was born in Flint, Michigan on February 11, 1948, daughter of Albert and Doris (Waeiss) Schraegle. She attended Grand Blanc schools and graduated in the class of 1966. Four years later (1970) she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Olivet Nazarene College (now University) in Bourbonnais, Illinois. In December 1970, Dawn moved to Chicago, Illinois to pursue her career as an auditor for the U.S. Department of Labor. She worked in Washington, D.C. from 1977 until July of 1982 at which time she returned to Chicago and married Herbert Schoene on September 11, l982. At retirement in January 2008, Dawn was an Assistant Regional Inspector General for Audit. While working as an auditor, she received numerous honors and special achievement awards. After retirement, Dawn became caregiver for her husband, Herb, until his death in June 2014. Dawn was an active member of her church, formerly Foster Avenue Baptist Church, renamed the Branch Community Church in recent years. She also served as local president of the American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA) for a number of years. Throughout Dawn’s life, she has enjoyed past times such as counted cross stitch, gardening, watching cooking shows, eating out at favorite restaurants, spending time with girlfriends, shopping, and Sudoku. Her absolute passion, however, was traveling, and she was always planning and looking forward to her next trip. She was planning to cruise the Mexican Riviera in November, and next February, spend a month on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Dawn is survived by her twin sisters, Deloris Winsinger Ball (Richard) and Doris Wilson (Daniel); sister-in-law Phyllis Schoene; brother-in-law Howard (Elli) Schoene; and several nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews, whom she loved dearly and enjoyed “doting” over. She will always be remembered for her very big and generous heart.

Dawn was such a good listener. She took amazing care of Herb. She was so brave in her cancer journey and had so many plans for life after cancer. She loved her church and her many friends. I think Herb and Dawn are dancing in Heaven. I don't think Dawn could ever imagine how many of us will miss her greatly.

Sharon Lawson August 13, 2016

Dawn will be sorely missed by her church family and friends. I have not know her for long, but we were building a lovely friendship. Her intelligent, humorous approach to problem solving and her generosity was much appreciated. She will be remembered with love and great fondness. Her loss will be keenly felt by many of us that were just getting to know her better. You have my sincere condolences.
