Donald R. Travis, 76, died on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, in Ocala, Fla., following a lengthy illness. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30 at Olson, Burke and Sullivan Funeral Home in Chicago. A committal service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery and Mausoleum in River Grove, IL. Don was born Oct. 5, 1938, in Kentucky, the son of Harold and Almerine Travis. Don grew up in Chicago and then served in the United States Army. He married Judy Smith on Oct. 9, 1964, in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 1995. He married Judy Swatkowski in 2006 in Florida. She survives in Ocala, Fla. Don is also survived by two sons Scott (Lindsey) Travis, Green River, WY; and Daniel (Melissa) Travis, Plainfield, IL; a brother, Thomas (Bonnie) Travis, Eureka, CA; a sister, Connie (Tom) Finck, of Kentucky; and five grandchildren, Amanda (Jose) Gutierrez, Peoria, IL; Nicolas Tuszynski, Bolingbrook, IL; Alexis Travis, Plainfield, IL; and Spencer Travis and Lillian Travis, Green River, WY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Wounded Warriors, or the American Legion.
